G_Tovar_project two choice

i want to do a combat scene and have chosen a few examples of what i want to do.
note: for the project, i will cut the unimportant filler.

primary choice: Sword of the Stranger- Nanashi vs Luo-Lang

Second choice: Seirei no Moribito- Balsa vs trackers

third choice: Seirei no Moribito- Red spear vs Green spear

Thoughts?

additional note: I have higher quality versions of each example, youtube is just easier to stream

Well What exactly are you using these clips for? The sound or a reference perhaps?
That first one was pretty cool.
But i'm not sure what you want to do exactly. =)

the combat action as reference. i have a bunch of sfx if i have the time near the end.

If I were you I'd try to find some live action stuff as reference. These are a good inspiration but they have already been animated. I find when I use animation as reference it makes it really hard to do my own thing.

agreed that the anime stuff can offer some ideas on key poses and timing, they can't be much help beyond the initial choreography. Make sure you support this with some live action reference. The spear stuff is neat, but having the prop switching from hand to hand can be a lot to sort out. Swords tend to be driven mostly by a primary hand and are much easier to wrangle. Finally, make sure you take a piece of action that is manageable in scope.

I know the mechanics of both sword and spear of how (when right handed) the left/back/under hand is the power provider, coming almost always from the triceps, and the right/forward/over hand is the direction controller as well as stopping power to prevent a swing from going to far. the only difference for spear is that the handing is occasionally switched off between stances. what i put together in my head was that the weapon setup would be zvparented to the power hand(in fk mode) and the directional hand (in ik mode) would be zvparented to the weapon setup. using zvparentmaster and keying ik/fk on norman's EX controls, it shouldn't be too difficult for hand switching if used. My friends and i have a few practice swords and i think we have a spear somewhere, so some live action reference is not out of reach. At this point, i'm sure i'll use the primary selection's katana vs chinese long sword, but of course, i'll only use a handful of the actions and string them together for smooth flow. though, it would be nice to recieve an estimated time limit for strictly action

I would be very interested to see how this develops. Looking at the first reference, it's pretty hard to pick out any specific technique being used because of the quickness of the action. Things like weight and arcs are getting sacrificed some to add power to the blows. It looks great, of course, but it also looks a challenge adapting that to live reference.

it is a challenge indeed, but not an impossible task.
