To add a handle to an object (I don't think it's a requirement, but nice to have):
1. Pose your character with the object.
2. Make sure pivot is where you want it to rotate (I tried to change it at the end of the process--doesn't work).
3. Create NURBs circle (make it a size easy to grab and find)-- NAME IT!
4. Select object > select circle > Constrain > "Parent" option box > "Maintain offset" OFF (remember, driver first when constraining)
5. Without clicking anything else, Constrain > Remove Target (we only wanted to orient the circle to the object, so we got rid of the constraint)
6. Select object > select circle > "P" (this time, we directly parent. When parenting, driver is last)
To constrain object to two hands:
1. After posing out first frame, create locator (scale it up for an easier see).
2. Select object > select locator > Constrain > "Parent" option box > "Maintain offset" OFF (keep the option box open-- you'll use it more later)
3. Rename locator (eg. Object_LOCK)
4. Create NURBs circle, duplicate it (I would have these smaller than the object handle).
5. Rename them to L_ and R_Hand.
6. Select both circles > select locator > "P" (should become listed in the order of Object_LOCK, parentConstraint, L_Hand, then R_Hand in the Outliner)
7. To snap controls to hand, Select Left arm IK control (the box on the wrist of Morpheus) > select L_Hand (the NURBs circle) > "Apply" in the Parent option box.
8. Immediately Constrain > Remove target
9. Repeat 7 and 8 for right hand.
10. Select NURBs circle > select IK control box > "Apply" in the Parent option box.
11. Repeat 10 for the other hand.
That should do it for two hands... Might get around to sliding the hands while still constrained to the object next week.
Of course, go watch David's Vimeo demo!
