Bachynski, Lana - 02584289

Double post. Taboo, I know, but here's the animation with the completed lipsync.

------- Begin Edit -------
Alright, so instead of triple posting, I've opted to just edit this post. Here's the first few seconds of blocking for assignment #2!

Bachynski, Lana - Dialogue Progress

Apparently I'm the only fool in the class who heard "12, Thursday" and thought midnight (as in Friday morning). Many apologies, but better late than never, I suppose.

Here's the most current update on my animation progress. Clearly I never got the opportunity to finalize the lipsync, but ideally it will be done by the end of the semester. I've got to run right now, but I'll edit this post in an hour or so with my reflections on the first assignment -- enjoy!

--------  Begin Edit  --------

As promised, I've got a few words of reflection based upon the first assignment. I would post it under the discussion like everyone else, but sadly, blogger still doesn't allow me the permissions to comment on a post, despite allowing me to make posts of my own.

Anyways, for me, the issue was always finding the time to work between life and my other class work. Albeit this class always takes priority over all of my other classes, I still found myself struggling to reach the goals I had set for myself. That being said, considering we're in school I can't be too upset, as I know that the process of learning is what I should really be concerned with.

What I learned is a smoother, faster workflow, though it took me a few weeks to get into the swing of things. First of all, starting with stepped blocking sort of threw me off, as I've been using the layered approach for several semesters now. However, over time, I developed a work ritual that I feel rather comfortable in, and that helped a lot once I discovered it. I, personally (and though it's probably just from staring at it so much) can physically see the moment it really kicked in.

Addtionally, I've never worked with Morpheus before. Between parenting elbow constraints to the right part of his body, learning how to lock the elbows in the source file, not the reference, and knowing which of the two head controls to animate, I think I will be much more successful in my over all efficiency moving ahead to my next assignment -- a dance!

I know you' ve seen this Dave, but for those who haven't and were interested in what their peers are up to, here's the reference for my next assignment. Even if you don't care, the dancers are amazing and I strongly suggest you check it out just to marvel at your own jaw drop.

INSTRUCTOR POST - reflections on assignment 1

A quick place to post comments on what you'd do differently starting out this first assignment, and what you may be able to apply to the next animation.

My bad I forgot to post my name

Nicholis - Fixed it "Jar of Dirt"

tried my best to show Morph didn't care about the jar so much until later on in the clip

Ivania Arguello - Not Typed Inbetweens

Hey guys! Here'a my inbetweens for my acting/dialogue assignment. I realized that some of the movements are a little slow (Especially at "An outline!") but I plan to polish this up until the end of the semester. Let me know what you guys think. Sorry for the small size, I forgot to change the settings of the playblast on the new computer I was working at.

Also, thanks to Brittany and Stephanie for your helpful feedbacks on my last post :) I really appreciate it!

Jack - Progress on my animation

The current state of my animation. I'm working on the computer guy now, already did some polishing on the boss, but haven't touched both characters face and fingers yet.

Lana Bachynski - Jar of Dirt Critique

As with the last time I attempted posting a comment, I have again been denied. Not sure if there's any accesibility issues on your end David, but it might be nice to check out when if you have the time.

That being said, I shall not be silenced! Thus, here is a bit of crit for the post below:

It's nice to hear it with the audio. I find that the slow look between "Dirt" and "This is a jar of dirt" to be particularly successful. I think it really conveys the blatant skepticism in "Jack's" voice nicely.

That being said, I think my main note was touched upon last class: I believe it's important to not lose "Jack's" face when he turns to protect his Jar. I it would still have the same effect ( if not a better one) if you have him turn TOWARDS the camera rather than away from it as then we really get the opportunity to see him clinging to that oh-so-precious dirt.

INSTRUCTOR POST

If you are posting on the blog remember to title it "Your Name - Topic" For example; anything I post as a student would be titled "David Latour - (topic)" Otherwise I cannot track your posting for participation marks. Be sure to put your name in the body text at the start of any comment as well.

Progress grades should be available end of day today, (thanks for your patience) check them out. If you have any questions about your grade you can make an appointment to go over them with me.

I'm now officially the full-time Animation Coordinator, (huzzah!) which means I have office hours starting next week. You can make an appointment with Monica or Brian in the office on the 3rd floor. If you make an appointment with me, be sure to have the following:
  • a written list of what you want to discuss.
  • paper and pen to write down what I tell you.
  • any relevant files available on the AAU server.
  • thumb drive/hard drive with the same.
I look forward to being able to serve your animation needs better. Comments, Questions or Suggestions are always welcome.

Brittany - Morphy's tongue

Hi everybody,

I'm having trouble getting the tongue to work on Morpheus. I thought the controls were outside the head, next to the controls for the teeth, but when I moved them nothing happened. Then I found two controls on the tongue inside the head, but they don't rotate and in fact seem to have a very limited range of motion. I'm trying to get a nice 'L' shape in my lip sync. Any thoughts?

Rough animation for the 'you stole it' clip. Any feedback is greatly appreciated.

Jason - Pong Blocking

virginie found this script skAnim (http://www.creativecrash.com/maya/downloads/scripts-plugins/animation/c/dkanim)

That helped me transfer animation keys from on rig to another fast. After watching this i noticed my lipsync moves too fast it parts. But that can be fixed

Ivania - Not Typed Blocking

Hey guys! Ivania, posting. Here's an updated version of my blocking. I feel like I'm falling a little behind, but I wanted to get everything down before moving on. Let me know what you guys think!

Critique

For some odd reason, it's not letting me comment on  posts, but I just thought I'd pitch my two-cents on Jack's revised blocking:

Hey! Looks good.
The entry of the 'boss', as it were, definitely has an angrier feel.
One thing I would probably say is I'm not sure he needs the pat on the back before goes for the face grab.

Also, what's the attitude of the guy at the computer? I know he's supposed to be all "Not this guy again" sort of thing, but no matter how much I don't care about someone, if they grabbed my face and shook me around, I'd probably look a little shaken.

Nice work on the monitor grab. Great job.

Liesl Tan - 02848462 - Blocking

Hi fellow classmates! I was absent from the previous class and didn't get to show my blocking pass for critique, so I'm posting it here. Let me know how it can be improved, please. :)

The green guy will be holding a toy house in his right hand, hence its position.

You Stole It - Blocking

Hi all - just wanted to post the blocking for my animation. It's still in its fairly early stages, but I really wanted to make sure the blocking was solid before I moved on.
